
Solomon’s shame—he no longer practices what he is said to have preached in Proverbs. His attraction for foreign women results in adding to his harem, along with their idolatrous practices. God removes the sacred canopy of divine protection. It is the beginning of the split of God’s people into two nations. The story is in the center of 1 Kings—a center that collapses. Only one tribe, Judah, remains faithful to the one Temple where all the tribes were to converge.
Place all your trust in the Lord alone; everyone else has feet of clay. Pray for those in spiritual leadership that they be faithful to the Lord. When tempted to criticize, “Let the one without sin cast the first stone!”
