Transforming the Agenda

The seven units of the reading strongly contrast with each other. On the way to the Mount of Transfiguration and coming down, Jesus predicts his suffering and death. Glory and the cross are put together, faith and unbelief struggle; a demon demonstrates a final wrestling before fleeing from a boy and leaving him in peace. Then there is competition among the disciples as to who is greater, inflating them with a worldly agenda that threatens to dissipate the power they had just received from the Master.

Five of these seven units called “pericopes” are under six verses. Read slowly. May each one find a place in the movement of your waking day. You might create seven pauses in the day to read each one, meditating for a few minutes on the key verse or verses. Allow the living Word of God to gain access to your agenda and transform it.
