Be especially aware of the key words on each side of the contrasts in these proverbs. You might jot them down on the left and right side of your journal. The cumulative effect of these wise sayings will deepen their common truth. Just as raking the soil back and forth prepares the ground for seed, so does the back and forth praying of these proverbs sift your soul as soil for the seed of God’s holy Word.
Ponder the truth verse 15. It reminds me of the ironic saying someone once said about a school: “This would be a wonderful place if it weren’t for the students!” The security of those who do not take risks serving is the stale air of those bored in life.
Write down those proverbs that especially ignite your soul. Return to them often today and be warmed by their fires.
