From the deepest essence of God comes the glory of Christ radiant in your heart. Move from what is limited and hidden, to what becomes manifest. Let this chapter be a sacred vehicle that transports you into fullness.

Inwardly taste the terms of the comparison so that you can feel the shift to the new and glorious covenant right now being freshly engraved on your warm heart of flesh. In Christ, the veil has been removed. Look into his heavenly face that shines transparently at you. Do this when you pray the Scriptures each day. Jesus abiding inside of you in his Spirit will teach you all things and will take away the veil of ignorance, giving you all wisdom. As you read the Scriptures, you yourself will be moving from glory to glory.

We live in a society that fears death. There is a desperate attempt in the cosmetic industry to make death seem far away by keeping us looking young. Children often reject their aged parents, placing them in nursing homes, even when it is possible and a blessing for them to live with their families.

An anonymous old man appears to be the author of this psalm. A whole life of dedication to the Lord and trust in God shines through these verses. He has had his times of rejection, yet there is serenity shining through this psalm, for the Lord has constantly upheld him from birth.

In verse 14, he will praise the Lord “yet more and more.” The idea in Hebrew is to find new ways to praise God. Old age has not taken away inventive, creative, and alive ways to praise His God. May we all be the same as we learn how to praise God more fully, even into our old age.

In the first book of Kings, we trace the early history of the Jewish people after the death of David, the shepherd king, through the greatness of wise Solomon. Tragedies occur when the First Commandment is constantly broken. Despite the magnificence of the Temple that we will hear described, the “house” of God’s people is built on the sands of idolatry, arrogance, power, and pride; it eventually divides into two. Remember what Jesus said about houses divided: they “cannot stand” (Matt. 12–25).

The sacred writer’s purpose is to make this history personal to you. May this book awaken longings in you to be faithful as a member of the New Temple—the very Body of Christ alive in the Holy Spirit.
