Spiritual Warfare

I have good news and bad news. The bad news: whatever you are struggling against is bigger than you are. The good news: God gives you all the power of heaven to come against all adversity. Take command of this power as you fight the spiritual wars in your life. Jesus won the victory for you. Apply the blood of the cross— the sign of triumph for every circumstance. Bind every thought or idea as a hostage, unless it is in keeping with the Word of Christ.

The root of our word “obedience” comes from the Latin, audire, whence the English, “audio.” It means first to listen, then to act accordingly. May it be so in your life.

Holy Remembrance

Tap on the image to view a meditation on Psalm 78.

A baby in the arms of his/her parents not only senses the love that the parents have for the child, but the faith that is in them as well. How you believe and what you believe exude from your person, generating and defining the space within and without you.

This psalm begins with the joy of sharing faith with one’s children. This faith is alive; it is central to the psalmist. It is not enough simply to place children into the hands of spiritual caretakers such as Sunday school teachers.

Most of the psalm is a lengthy recollection of the disobedience and infidelity of God’s people, God’s response, and ultimate compassion upon those faithful to God.

May your heart be inflamed with a desire to grow in your life with the Lord.

The Lord Exasperated

Anger and sadness often go together. When we lose a dear one in death, the loss produces grief. However, first there is anger, especially when we view the loss as a violation of justice.

In this passage, the anger of the Lord comes after years of unfaithful kings, one after another. The grieving of the Holy Spirit becomes complete exasperation. In the verse for today, the Hebrew word for anger is cha’as: the kind of anger that wells up after being constantly provoked. It is not the reactive anger of which we are so familiar in our sinfulness.

Reflect upon anger in your life.
