Extenders to Proverbs

The same Spirit of the living God that gave wisdom to the writer of Proverbs is ready and available now to pour wisdom into your heart. Just as these proverbs come to us in writing, so can the Spirit use your own hand in writing what could be called “extenders” to the proverbs. These are your own personal expressions of truths as they especially touch your own life. Perhaps people and circumstances will come to your awareness; lift them in prayer as the Spirit prompts. Images, further wisdom sayings of your own, and the Spirit’s creation will flow forth.
Once again, make use of the pauses that the Spirit urges you to make. Lift your eyes in silent pondering until the words of wisdom take flesh in your own life.

Shocked into Repentance

If you find yourself shocked by the anger and violence of God, know how God is appalled even more by the evil of idolatry, which enrages God’s heart. No, you might not adore an idol of plaster of Paris, yet it is easy to be tempted to place the center of preference in some project, some plan, and some thing as empty as a cheap idol, in place of God.
The day of trouble has come: Good Friday. The Easter season is one continuous day of salvation. For those who resist God’s plan in their lives, there are not enough physical or emotional anesthesias to ward off the pain.
Be sobered by the verse for the day. Remember “the bottom line.” God is forgiving. Yet God wants your heart now, not postponed until later. God’s anger is short; God’s love is everlasting—but this life is not! Repent now and live.
Mondays are dedicated to the reading of the Hebrew Prophets.
In the season of Easter we read Ezekiel 1—16.
