Praise and Promise

Ten weeks of readings predicting destruction for godless, nasty nations, yield to three weeks of exuberant release of praise and promise. Get in touch with the aftermath of the downfall of cities that have made themselves into gods. Now God’s reign covers the face of the earth. Find your joy in the expressions of God’s protection of the poor and needy. Recall the calming of the storm of yesterday’s reading as images of God’s protection fill verses 4 and 5.

Isaiah joins John and Paul as two verses are lifted into the New Testament. Revelation 19:9 finds inspiration in verse 6; Revelation 21: 4 and 1 Corinthians 1:59 are inspired by verse 8.

Pray for nations that continue to rule apart from an awareness of God’s presence, lest destruction happen for them, just as for those ruthless, ancient nations.

Are there any inner storms or knotted emotions in you that need quiet space for unraveling?
