Listen to Pastor Nick read the Firestarter Job 39:19-30.
For thirty-seven chapters, Job and his friends have been going back and forth. Now it is time for God to have the final word. Yet the response of God in chapter 39 consists of questions—seventeen of them. However, they are very different from the heady, judgmental, and moralistic ones that Job’s friends have been posing in their tedious game of tug ‘o war. God simply asks questions about creatures and nature intended to shake Job out of his woes and thrust him back into wonder. These questions come as so many karate chops to Job’s spirit. There is a sense of “loving cynicism” from God, which you will catch if you read “you” with emphasis, referring to Job. More importantly, let the “you” be you!
