The Center Collapses

Solomon’s shame—he no longer practices what he is said to have preached in Proverbs. His attraction for foreign women results in adding to his harem, along with their idolatrous practices. God removes the sacred canopy of divine protection. It is the beginning of the split of God’s people into two nations. The story is in the center of 1 Kings—a center that collapses. Only one tribe, Judah, remains faithful to the one Temple where all the tribes were to converge.

Place all your trust in the Lord alone; everyone else has feet of clay. Pray for those in spiritual leadership that they be faithful to the Lord. When tempted to criticize, “Let the one without sin cast the first stone!”

God Hurts

Put yourself in God’s place as a scorned spouse. Experience the indignation and hurt of the Lord. You know that the Lord is forgiving, but what affronts are made to God! God feels; the Holy Spirit grieves.

Never presume on the Lord’s mercy. Decide now to be a faithful spiritual spouse of the Lord who wants nothing but the closest intimacy with you. God is ready to forgive, but you must repent of any brand of unfaithfulness in your life toward the Lord.

May God’s fidelity be an incentive for you to go deeper into your own soul, rooting out indifference and infidelity to the Lord, until your surrender to the Lord is total.
