Transforming the Agenda

The seven units of the reading strongly contrast with each other. On the way to the Mount of Transfiguration and coming down, Jesus predicts his suffering and death. Glory and the cross are put together, faith and unbelief struggle; a demon demonstrates a final wrestling before fleeing from a boy and leaving him in peace. Then there is competition among the disciples as to who is greater, inflating them with a worldly agenda that threatens to dissipate the power they had just received from the Master.

Five of these seven units called “pericopes” are under six verses. Read slowly. May each one find a place in the movement of your waking day. You might create seven pauses in the day to read each one, meditating for a few minutes on the key verse or verses. Allow the living Word of God to gain access to your agenda and transform it.

Qualities of Leadership

Every Christian is a minister of the Gospel; however, certain ones are appointed to lead or “supervise,” the meaning of the Greek, episkopos. The qualities of leadership described here are ones for us to establish in ourselves, no matter how God calls us to lead. “Married only once,” means faithful to one spouse.

As you read these qualities, find a place for them in your own spirit as each one touches your strings within that need to be “tuned.” When you are out of tune, allow the Spirit do the adjusting, as you surrender to the Lord who alone can make you into the person God created you to be.

There are sound Biblical principles that you will want to meditate upon in the course of your day. How do you measure up to them?

The Beauty of Holiness

Wednesday, the middle of the week, is at the center of a cross. Spread in threes on either side, are the other days of the week. In deep, vertical descent, the psalms take us back to the times of King David. Wednesdays are rooted in the psalms as they touch the early prayer of God’s people in ways that stretch upward to the promises that would come to pass. Especially in this psalm, we claim the messianic prophecy that links David to Jesus.

Your world stretches both outwardly in wide expanse, and inwardly to the quiet depths of prayer, which the Spirit of King Jesus is pouring into your heart. From the center of this cross—as from the open side of Jesus—blood and water continue to flow forth as signs of the presence of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, filling your week.
