Resting in Jesus

The nature of Christ is exalted high above the greatness of Moses. Christ draws us to himself, embracing us, longing that we rest in the security and comfort of being one with his own body.

Let us not be as God’s people in the desert—as children squirming and pushing away from the cuddling arms of a loving parent. Rebelliousness, restlessness, and resistance took place, coming from that hardness of heart that happens when unbelief is at the core.

Sink into this day, this moment as into the arms of Jesus who waits for you to rest with him and in him. Beware of the negative movement of the deceitfulness of sin and of disobedience to God’s Word. What is it in you that tends to push you away from that quiet peace that comes when you are resting in Jesus?

The Radiating Presence

Tap here for a video meditation on Psalm 114.

Crowds make a border of cheers in support of the runners in city Marathons. In such a manner does the psalmist describe the hills and rivers skipping and dancing as rams and lambs in their joy as they witness the race of God’s people to freedom in the Exodus.

As you run the race and grow in holiness and perfection in the Body of Christ, all creation cheers you along. Just as the earth is described in verse 7 as trembling at the presence of the Lord, so does the Spirit of Jesus within you command a power that radiates to the world about you. Humbly accept this power—it is not yours, but God’s. Release this power in loving acts of prayer and service with a joy that cheers others along their race in its course in mid-week and mid-summer.

God’s Data Base

It is possible to access the history of your family from immense data bases prepared for computers. This has spurred interest in the discovery of one’s ethnic origins. With today’s passage, we conclude the nine chapters of genealogies that has been God’s “data base” for the narrative that follows. For people in exile for almost a century, there was need to find themselves flowing from the great list of ancestors through the tribes of Israel and to remain faithful, as later ancestors did not.

Who are the ones close to you in your past that have connected you to the faith of our fathers and mothers? A myriad number of ancestors have conspired with God that you come into existence and believe in Jesus. Nothing is by chance—all is the design of God. What difference will you make to your progeny in the light of your growing love for the Lord and God’s Word?
