The Holy Spirit in You

The Book of Acts is the risen Lord living in his new community through the Holy Spirit. Though we focus on the coming of the Spirit fifty days after Easter on Pentecost, recall that the night of the Resurrection, Jesus appeared to the disciples and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit!”

Rejoice this Easter season that this same Holy Spirit wants to act in you and through you as you are engrafted onto the Lord’s risen life through a community of faith. As you enter the picture of the first days of the Church, can you find these spiritual energies alive with you? You will, if you “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33).

What Not to Do

Video Meditation on Psalm 15. Tap here.

There is no other joy in life than to sense that you are in the presence of God. This presence for God’s people in David’s time was the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. Your soul is intended to be the resting place for God when you surrender to the Lord Jesus. “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:23).

The psalm makes a list of what not to do, so that you may dwell with God. Pray the list item by item, opening yourself to the immense inner freedom that comes to those whose lives flow in agreement with the list. If anything jolts your spirit, it means that the Lord is convicting you by awakening you to sin. Turn to the Lord in immediate repentance and receive the peace that only God can give.

Seasoned with Wisdom

The first three Tuesdays in Easter find us penetrating truth through the Book of Proverbs. The Holy Spirit as always is our teacher. Each one of the four seasons over the three-year cycle has a few chapters from this book to “season” our lives with the wisdom of the Spirit.

“On the one hand … on the other hand …” this expression uses the physical weighing of two open palms to consider contrasting points. This book of peace expresses proverbs in a similar manner. Receive each side of these wise sayings, as though you weigh each half of the truths in your hands, until the wisdom that feeds the proverbs centers you. Pause at special proverbs such as the one for today. The one that winks and looks the other way at evil is the one who causes trouble!
