The Bride and the Bridge

The Lord longs for you as a spouse in a most intimate relationship. Wrap yourself in these words of comfort as you take joy in the preferential love of the Lord for you.

Take the second person pronoun as though directed to you alone. Become deeply enthused about renewal in your life, just as a bride sees herself in a new way, due to the unconditional love that her husband has for her. The radiance of the bridegroom flows into your life and outward to others in smiles and gestures of pure love, drawing others into the same love-field in which you are rejoicing. Your soul speaks as a newly wedded bride about what it is like to be so loved by God. You become the bridge for others to God.

The New Wine

Six heavy, earthen urns sit awkwardly; ashamedly empty in the midst of the energy of a wedding feast. Six— number of incompleteness. The wine of the old law has been consumed. Place yourself there. Stand next to the mother of Jesus and listen to her instruction: “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

Does your life sometimes feel as one of those empty urns—empty, heavy, waiting to be filled? The bridegroom is with you right now as you enter into this sacred passage. Open yourself to be filled. Let all that is old in you yield to the New Wine that the Spirit of Jesus is ready and longing to pour into your heart.

God’s Saving Acts Begin Again.

Joseph dragged to Egypt as a slave, becomes the means of salvation for his people. Now it is Moses who returns to Egypt as the Lord’s chosen to save God’s people who had all become slaves in that land. The swelling movement of God’s saving acts begins again. No resistance on the part of Pharaoh is going to withstand what God is going to do. Even the periodic discouragements and angers of the Israelites against Moses do not stop the Lord from the relentless grace of salvation held out to God’s beloved people.

Resistance of God’s people is stronger when they fail to worship. When you find that affliction seems greater than grace, bow your head, go inward, and worship the Lord in acts of praise, trust, and surrender. Focus all the energies of faith upon the One who is delivering you right now.
