The Well-Worn Path

Tap here for a video meditation on Psalm 119:1-24.

The psalmist uplifts the beauty of the ways of the Lord. The word for “way” in Hebrew is Derek, meaning, “to walk.” After one treads the same path over and over, it becomes well-worn—a road, a way. Also implied is the meaning of habit, the pathway in our souls when we do things repeatedly. As the comfort that comes from praying a familiar prayer, receive the joy and peace that come when you are walking in the well-worn ways of the Lord.

Each week you will learn an original Hebrew word for God’s will. The first stanza has seven out of ten of these words. We will take one of each of these seven synonyms for the seven Wednesdays of Easter this year. Repeat the word often in the original Hebrew. Peace will flow over you in one single psalm we pray during this year’s Easter season.

Masterpieces in the Silence

The Holy Spirit that infused Solomon is now about to fill you with wisdom as we live more consciously in the risen body of Jesus. The first three Tuesdays in Easter time this year are devoted to three chapters of Proverbs.

When visiting a holy place filled with masterpieces of art, there needs to be a slow pace while contemplating each piece. Let that pace be as you pray these proverbs. Set every one into a surrounding silence of the heart, letting each proverb soak that area of your soul where you are most in need.

Hold verse 5 in your hand and heart. Are there spiritual friends in your life who are open to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit? When praying over verses 11–12, do not be an ostrich when it comes to wrongdoing.

Watchman, Singer and Shepherd

Three images are used by the Lord through Ezekiel to focus on the responsibilities of spiritual leadership— watchman, singer, and shepherd. Whether you are pastor or parishioner, listen well to the accountability to the Lord required of each person. Note the power of 33:32. How easy it is for the most anointed of spiritual singers either to awaken one to action and change, or simply be a soothing sound for the ears alone!

Listen to words of judgment and challenge. Rest in the strength of your Father God who takes charge and watches out for you, who becomes your personal shepherd through Christ Jesus, and who sings to your soul through the Holy Spirit.

What personal changes need to take place because of your close praying of God’s Word today?

Ezekiel 33—35
