Christ Lives in Me.

In the Magi, Gentiles have free access to the living God in Christ. Here the great apostle to the Gentiles, Paul, depicts the essence of his call: Gentiles have total access to the grace of God without having to fulfill the prescriptions of the law. We catch a glimpse of the conflict in personal terms, imagining what must have been the sparks that flew between Peter and Paul.

Along with the first chapter, this one completes the first of three parts of the letterthe call and credential of Paul himself. The end of the chapter presents the point of doctrine, which Paul develops in chapters 3 and 4: the human person is justified by faith, and not by works.

Memorize verse 20 and let it fall upon your heart as the coals of fire upon the lips of Isaiah—as the burning embers of frankincense, gift of the Magi.

A Heavy Heart’s Answered Prayer

Tap here for a video meditation on Psalm 6.

The coming of Christ brings turmoil to resistant ones. The more you turn your life over to God, the more persecution you will receive. Expect it! However, expect all the more that God will bring you beyond your pain to the triumphant experience by faith of God’s love and power in your life. Nothing nor anyone can take this away from you.

God’s grace in the shining star penetrates the earth, revealing the fragile goodness and hardened arrogance that lurk there. Here in the middle of Epiphany Week, David’s bed of suffering evidences the struggle between good and evil. Verse after verse come as waves of feeling expressing the extent of David’s pain. However, the heart of this man extends even more, stretching his prayer to the utmost until he knows that God is answering him.

The Life-Pledge

Deeds of land of the Twelve Tribes are described. However, the lands are unlike those that are bought with a bank’s money as a mortgagea “death-pledge” upon it. These are inherited lands given by God alone to God’s chosen people through Moses.

We live in a society where we earn, buy and sell possessions and properties; only then do we will them as inheritance. But the Psalmist declares in 89:11 “The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all its fullness.” Today be aware of all that you have as given to you by the Lord. You have something greater, given by the death of Jesus on the cross. He is the inheritance of God—a “life-pledge.” Christ shares this with you in the inner Kingdom where he calls us to live by this outpouring of God’s love. Approach with the Magi and adore.
