Faith that Makes Whole

Jesus was human; his rejection by his own family must have been painful for him. With the special love he felt for them, Jesus would have wanted them to be healed among the first. However, he could not do it! Think of it: Jesus is powerless where there is no faith. Where there is faith, Jesus’s presence celebrates the healing that takes place. “Your faith has made you whole.”

Right after the rejection of his family of blood, Jesus becomes one with his family in the Spirit—the first disciples. They are commissioned to go out just as he has done, bringing the healing presence of God.

The power that Jesus has, he gives away. He wants to give it to you, for your own healing, and to have you become an agent for the healing of others. May the Holy Spirit move you to profound faith in the healing power of God

The Symbol of Your Uniqueness

Hear the sobering consequences for those who challenged the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Death by plague comes to those continuing to rebel and complain against the Lord. Moses stands in the gap for the people as their intercessor. (Cf. Ezekiel 22:30.)

Chapter 17 tells what the Lord does about the arrogance of the people’s complaining about Aaron. His rod buds with blossoms and almonds. Together with the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, this wondrous sign from the Lord is placed in the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle.

You are called to a unique ministry that only you can fulfill. What would be a symbol of this uniqueness? Put it near the place where you pray.

Numbers 16:41—17:13

as also in this Bible plan.
Here is the entire portion in all three parts.

The Saturday passages follow the reading list that Jewish people use in their synagogue worship
throughout the world. They are taken from
“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy
that are read each year beginning with autumn.

Contempt for the Familiar

High school yearbooks throughout the land have predictions of those “Most likely to succeed.” Reunions years later often belie these predictions.

Jesus’s classmates in Nazareth missed it too when it came to Jesus’s future. Their familiarity with him bred a kind of contempt—at least blindness to what he could become. In a Gospel filled with wonders, miracles and amazement on the part of the people about Jesus, it was in Nazareth that Jesus was amazed at the lack of faith of the people. Hardly any healings took place there.

Accompany the Twelve on their first missionary journey. Grieve with them and with Jesus over the beheading of John the Baptist.
