The Temple of Time

The only remains of the Temple of Jerusalem are what is now called the “Wailing Wall.” This psalm must increase the feelings of grief for Jews as they pray beside this relic of the greatness of the former Temple.

However, more than a building in space, the new temple is the Body of Christ in time. We have entered this holy temple of sacred time through the gateway of Advent. There is a new and heavenly Jerusalem that is to come down from heaven, as we read in Revelation 21:1–4; still, ahead of you lies the daily opportunity to be aware of the intimacy you share with those bonded by the spiritual bones and sinews of the Body of Christ. Time is soaked with eternity.

Let go of all those “former things” in your life that need to pass away that blind and block you from this union with Christ, such as resentments, fears, sins. Let the Holy City descend into your heart.

Longing To Be Led

We begin to consider a period in Jewish history from 1380 to 1050 B.C. Joshua, the Lord’s special warrior, has entered into the Promised Land. Once there, possession of all the land begins to take place. Each person begins “to do their own thing.” Leadership is needed; the Lord gives gifts of direction to special persons to govern the people, make decisions, and win military victories over the enemies of God’s People. The Bible calls them “Judges.” Actually, they are a combination of what we would come to divide into three areas in our democratic nation—legislative, executive, and judicial. In addition, they combine military and civil, which we keep separate.

Advent is the time to ask: “Do I long to be led to inner freedom? Reach inward in faith to the Holy Spirit given to you as your personal lawyer and spiritual director.

Comfort Ye

Beginning on a lofty note and dropping down four tones as on a doorbell or a clock in slow motion, the tenor in Handel’s Messiah rings out the cry: “COMFORT YE!” He lingers long on the “YE.” The first one to ring out this cry was the Lord through the prophet, Isaiah. Three times in two verses, “Comfort” is repeated.

Do you have a need to be comforted this Advent and Christmas? Expose the pain in your life without hiding it. You will do this only if you know it is safe to do so, in the presence of someone who will accept the pain.

Believe by faith that you are in the presence right now of The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who longs to dwell deep within you and release healing rays of comfort and peace.

Isaiah 40

Mondays are dedicated to the reading of the Hebrew Prophets.
In the Winder Season of Advent to Epiphany this year we read Isaiah 40 – 55.
