Everything Can Be Sacred

The celebrations in which Jewish people take part have their origins in the revelation of God to Moses. Here there is another listing of the feasts with details about how they are to be honored. These are the direct words of God to the people concerning how the seasons for farming and other events become sacred celebrations, ways to give God honor and glory.

I recall what Ignatius of Loyola wanted for the Jesuits: “Let them find God in all things.” How can you take the things you are called to do and have them become acts of worship and honor to the Lord?

This may help; the word “profane” in Latin means: “In front of the temple.” What is outside of the “temple” where the Lord dwells is profane. However, you are the temple of the Lord where the Blessed Trinity dwells. Actions that flow from this presence are sacred, those that do not are profane. May you grow in knowing Who lives within you.

The Saturday passages follow the reading list that Jewish people use in their synagogue worship

“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy
that are read each year beginning with autumn.

The Community and Jesus Risen

Thomas’s absence at the first appearance of Jesus becomes a handicap to knowing the presence of Jesus risen in the new community. For Thomas, an alive Jesus would be a revivified corpse. He had no idea that Jesus would live in him.

The second encounter with Jesus eight days later begins as the first one in 20:19. Even before the manifestation to Thomas, Jesus is already present in the community that loves in such a way, that his presence is manifest in them.

Are you part of a community that lives and loves in the Spirit? No personal preferences to see Jesus in any particular manner will substitute for this.

A Story Retold

We read the second of three accounts of the story of Paul’s conversion. Each telling is fresh, for there are new opportunities for Paul to give praise to his Lord. Catch the joy in his spirit as Paul shares his deep conviction that no evil can ever come against him that will be able to withstand the power of his Jesus.

Cast your memory over your past life. Recall those times when God intervened in your life in clear and manifest ways. How did you respond? Spend time with the story of God’s shaping of your life to be in conformity with Jesus. There is energy in the retelling of the story as you move further into your life as it continues. Writing the story as Luke does, will deepen its impact upon you and upon others when you share it.
