Gog is a symbol of all the forces of evil. However great be its power unleashed, greater still is the power of God, the Almighty, rising up to protect God’s beloved. The moment of evil’s apparent victory becomes the time when God releases the power to heal and restore his loved ones who are suffering.

Boldly believe beyond what the senses behold. Take courage from the central theme of this great prophet: the absolute sovereignty of God. The Enemy wants to fashion destructive weapons against you from the points of pain in your life. Note these points; allow them to be Firestarters for your soul.

Blockage becomes passage to new life. The stone before the tomb is rolled away, revealing its inner emptiness—faith proclaiming the resurrection. When Gog shows up, so does God—with much greater power!

Blood and sexuality are spoken about as holy. Blood is life; life is to be dedicated to God, and so blood was reserved for God alone. No blood was permitted to be consumed by anyone.

The New Testament Letter to the Hebrews develops this in an exalted way, speaking about the holiness of the Blood of Christ. His blood is sacramentally consumed by us, for in Christ, we already belong to him and are one with him. Communion is the expression of the blood of Christ given back in sacrifice to God.

The world tends to degrade sexuality and eclipse its holiness. The prescriptions in chapter 18 are to remind us of the goodness and joy of human sexuality. Care must be taken to protect and maintain its sacredness, for upon this depends whether God will be present in the sexual encounter or not. May the spirit of these ordinances become even clearer to you, for the greater glory of God.

Mary Magdalene, figure of the New Eve, weeps at the place of sin’s evidence. Robbery continues to be the only alternative, even in the face of two angels whom one would think would stir her to wonder. Place yourself in the scene so you can feel Mary’s desperation and then the release of joy when recognition comes.

The power of the resurrection is in the power of love. John describes this incident in language that recalls the lover seeking the beloved in The Song of Songs, 3:2. The New Adam, the Bridegroom, is here to join in wondrous love with his Bride, the Church—the New Eve.

Remember the questions of Jesus to the first disciples (1:38): “What are you looking for?” … to his arresters (18:4) and here to Mary: “Whom are you looking for?” Let the power of the resurrection stir you to seek for Jesus, lover of your soul.
