Shocked by God’s Love

Jesus does something very shocking to his disciples: he washes their feet!  Even a slave could not be ordered to wash the feet of his master; but Jesus the Master of all masters, washes the feet of his friends.

Be there.  Listen to the objection that Peter raises, and the reply of Jesus.  As you sit among the disciples, your turn comes and Jesus washes your feet.  Feel his love and desire that you really be one of his disciples.  Listen well to the words of Jesus when he finishes.  We’re called to wash each others’ feet. While we don’t actually need to do this today because of how easy it is to take  baths or showers, yet there is some humble, loving service that God calls each of us to do so as to shock people about God’s love, just as Peter was.  A simple act of kindness to someone not expecting it—that might be an idea!
