There once was a very famous Polish astronomer named Copernicus who lived in the sixteenth century. He showed how the sun is the center of the solar system, with the earth and other planets circling about it.  His discovery caused a big stir among many people and church leaders who thought that the center was the earth and that it was flat, the way the Bible seemed to tell them.

Elihu in today’s reading does something similar.  Up to this time in the book of Job, the center of attention has been on Job—his anguish, anger and accusations against him by his friends.  But when Elihu arrives on the scene, there is a shift from Job being the center, to God.

The passage is filled with poetry that makes what Elihu has to say beautiful.  Yet there is still something missing.  Now that we have the focus shifted to God, we are at last in a position to listen to God.  But we still need to hear what God has to say;  that will come next week!

Here’s a thought: God is more in the center of your very self than you are!
