Warmed by the Fire of the Spirit

Many storms in the United States result in families without electricity for a very long time. Not only is light often lost, but also heat, as furnaces need electricity to ignite the fire.

This is what happened to Babylonia and its capital, Babylon. This wicked city boasted for a long time in her power over the Hebrews. They forced God’s people into exile into their country. Like a great power failure, the Babylonians became weak and vulnerable before the greater power of King Cyrus of Persia. In 539 BCE, he entered the city and almost completely destroyed it. He freed God’s people to return to their own land.

Unlike Babylon in verse 14, with “No fire to sit by,” the fire of the Holy Spirit burning in your heart is the greatest power there is. Sit in the quiet and be warmed by the fire. “Carry so much quiet inside you that you have some extra calm to share…” Safiyah Fosua
