Glory and Weight

One of the very important words for St. John in his Gospel is “glory.”   This word in Hebrew, kabod, literally means “weight.”  So what does it mean that God’s glory is like a weight?

Ever have fun playing with an inflatable punching bag that has a weight at the bottom?   When you hit it, it just keeps popping back up.   God’s glory is like a great weight at the base of life.  Even though there are all sorts of evil punching away at God and God’s creation, like a great weight at the base of life, God’s love just pops back up again and again.

At the bottom of your soul, God is present as a weight.  Check this out when you simply sit quietly, straight up and down, relaxed and balanced.  Feel your weight sinking into the chair or floor.  Imagine this weight is God’s presence to you with all the love and glory of God.

 John 3:22-36

Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels.
This year in the seasons of Lent and Easter we read selections from the Gospel of John.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
