Keeping Balance

When a ship is being tossed and turned in a storm, an instrument called a gyroscope helps keep the floor of the ship balanced and even.  A gyroscope is a rapidly spinning wheel on an axis (like an axle of a car), that tends to stay even, no matter how things are changing all around outside it.

Psalm 26 tells how the sacred writer is able to keep balance and be peaceful while his enemies are pushing and shoving him all around.  Like a gyroscope, he keeps balance by walking around the altar, instead of spending time with those who poke at him; that would not only have him unsteady, but they would distract him for the peaceful presence of God who gives him joy.

Is there anything in your life that is making you loose peace as though your soul, like your body, is off balance?
